Are There Any Prerequisites?
CISSP Experience Requirements
The CISSP is an advanced certification for those who have experience in IT security, however (ISC)² now allows those with no experience to sit for the certification exam (details below). CISSP exam candidates must demonstrate a minimum of five years of cumulative paid work experience in two or more of the eight domains covered by the CISSP exam. Candidates who possess a four-year college degree or regional equivalent, or additional (ISC)² certifications from the approved (ISC)² certification list will satisfy one year of the required experience. The maximum experience credit that can be granted for education is one year.
Candidates who lack the necessary experience can still take this training and become an Associate of (ISC)² by successfully passing the CISSP examination. Once the exam has been successfully passed by the candidate, they will then be afforded six years to develop the required 5-years of experience and will then be able to obtain the CISSP credential.
Candidates must demonstrate work experience that falls within two or more of the eight domains covered by the (ISC)² CISSP:
- Domain 1. Security and Risk Management
- Domain 2. Asset Security
- Domain 3. Security Architecture and Engineering
- Domain 4. Communication and Network Security
- Domain 5. Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Domain 6. Security Assessment and Testing
- Domain 7. Security Operations
- Domain 8. Software Development Security
Full-Time Experience: A candidate’s work experience is accrued monthly. A minimum of 35 hours per week for 4 weeks will satisfy one month of work experience.
Part-Time Experience: Part-time experience must not be less than 20 hours/week and cannot be more than 34 hours a week.
- 1040 hours of part-time = 6 months of full time experience
- 2080 hours of part-time = 12 months of full time experience
Internship: Internships, both paid and unpaid, can count toward the experience requirements of the CISSP exam and credential. Candidates must provide documentation from the organization on official letterhead that confirms their internship. Candidates who are interning through their school must provide confirmation of their internship on their registrar’s stationery.
Not Enough Experience?
Start on a pathway to certification with this training program, which will prepare you to pass the CISSP exam and become an Associate of (ISC)². This option allows candidates to take the certification exam without the work experience. Once you have passed the exam, you simply need to work to get the experience needed for certification.
What Is The Advantage Of Getting Certified?
The CISSP certification is one of the premier cyber security certifications worldwide for good reason. IT professionals who obtain this credential will find that businesses of all sizes require CISSP certified professionals.
Additionally, the United States government and all branches of the U.S. Military employ government contractors, as well as both civilian and military assets who are CISSP certified. The reason that the government is such a big employer of CISSP credentialed professionals is because the CISSP certification is the gold standard certification used to comply with the Department of Defense (DoD) 8570 standards and cyber security requirements.
Some of the organizations that regularly require CISSP certified professionals include the following:
- Hewlett- Packard
- Sony Pictures
- The Hilton Hotels Corp.,
- Lockheed Martin
- General Mills
How Long Will It Take To Get Certified?
The training program provided by LearnTITAN is self-paced, and on-demand. It was designed to integrate the modern IT professional’s busy mix of personal and professional commitments with their training requirements. The course was developed with maximum flexibility in mind, and ongoing, unrestricted access is provided. The time it takes for a student to be ready to take the exam varies greatly, however many students have continued to use the training materials as an on-the-job reference after passing the certification exam.
